What is your home town?
How long have you been doing triathlons, running or swimming?
I did not have a fitness or running background. I started working out in college to try to keep from gaining those dreaded “freshman 15”. I ran a mile here and there in college and hated every minute of it. I moved to Lafayette back in 2006 and met a friend who ran! She and I became morning running buddies which eventually lead me to running my first OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon – I then became hooked! After getting a job at a triathlon store in Lafayette, I understood how triathlons worked but mainly stuck to running. I was comfortable on a bike but dreaded learning to swim! Eventually I faced my swimming fears, and in 2013 I did my first sprint triathlon and 2014 I finished my first Olympic distance triathlon… and more triathlons to come!
What is your favorite piece of training equipment?
What helped me most in the water when I started swimming was the pull buoy. It let me focus on my stroke and get comfortable with my head in the water without having to think about my kick and have the feeling like I was sinking. I love that piece of swimming equipment!
Secondly would be my bike trainer. When time is short and if it’s nasty outside, it’s super easy to just get on the bike and catch up on some Netflix .
What is your favorite pre-race meal?
I honestly don’t really eat any differently before a race than I normally do – I stick with a meal that I know will agree with my stomach and stay hydrated!
What do you do to recover from a hard workout?
I’ve become a huge fan of the NormaTec boots that we have at Endurance House! My leg muscles feel much more recovered after sitting in the boots for an hour.
What is your favorite race?
I love half marathons. My favorite races are the 131Event half marathons at Eagle Creek (especially the Summer Night Trail run!)
What is the best part about doing a Tuesday Night Fun Run?
Meeting new people and having good conversation out on the run! I run solo a lot so it’s really nice to run with a group!
